Frequently Asked Questions
Can you play outside?
Yes, but there are a few things to consider. The harp needs to be protected from the elements - rain and sun. All outdoor weddings require a back-up location to be available and used in the case of inclement weather.
Contact Michelle to discuss if you are concerned about the location and it's suitability for a harp.
Do we need to meet before the day?
It is not necessary to meet beforehand as all arrangements and correspondence can be done via email/phone. Michelle's repertoire list and music samples are available on her website for you to browse.
If you would like to meet and watch Michelle play, this can be arranged in her studio at an extra cost.
Do you attend the wedding rehearsal?
Generally, no. Michelle will discuss the logistics of your ceremony and music selection leading up to your wedding. On the day Michelle will arrive in plenty of time to confirm the timings with the marriage celebrant/officiant.
Performing at weddings is a speciality of Michelle's – it is her job to make the music fit whatever happens! She has had years of experience and played at hundreds of weddings.
If you would like Michelle to attend the wedding rehearsal, her usual rates will apply.
Do we need to choose all of the songs for the prelude music as guests are arriving & being seated?
No, generally, Michelle will choose the songs for the prelude. Feel free to let her know if you have a preferred style or if there is a song you do not want played. Clients are welcome to choose special selections for the Processional, Signing and Recessional from Michelle's repertoire list. She is also happy to make suggestions if needed.
There’s a piece we would really love but it’s not on your repertoire list. Can you learn it?
It may be possible to arrange a piece specially for the occasion. This depends on how much notice is given and the complexity of the piece. Michelle may charge a fee at her discretion to cover music costs and time. As you can see from the repertoire list, a harp can play a diverse range of music, but not every style will work – please ask for advice.
Do you need amplification?
Amplification is not necessary for wedding ceremonies and most receptions. Venues often have a P.A system that can be used if you have a large number of guests and would like the harp to be amplified. Michelle is happy to inquire on your behalf.
Can you play at the Ceremony and Reception?
Yes absolutely! Location changes and time in-between will be factored into the fee. Please contact Michelle for a quote.
How long can you play for?
Approximately 3hrs is the total consecutive length Michelle can be booked for. Please note that this will also include 10min breaks each hour. Often breaks can be worked into the event's formalities.
